Changing Kobo landscape mode and screen orientation

Changing Kobo landscape mode and screen orientation />

When I first bought my first Kobo eReader Kobo Glo, I was disappointed to learn that the device does not support landscape mode for files with epub extensions, we could only change the screen rotation in PDF extensions. Changing the screen orientation that we are used in mobile phones and tablets and being able to read the landscape mode is a feature that some users are looking for. It was a disadvantage for Kobo that Kindle eBook readers had such a feature at the time, but was it really that important?

Landscape mode is important if you're reading with large font sizes and you can get more words per line. In addition, Kobo was the only dedicated ebook reader that did not have landscape mode for ebooks. For so long, new updates did not include the option to read e-books in landscape mode, so some users had stopped waiting for this feature and started looking for new solutions, including installing Koreader.

Last but not least, Kobo has released two models on the market, Kobo Forma and Kobo Libra H2O, which take this step a step further and automatically update the screen to portrait or landscape mode. screen caliber was added. In all updates, Kobo thinks of all devices except Kobo Mini and sends the same software to support it as hardware. So even if you don't have a Kobo Forma or Kobo Libra H2O eReader, the ability to change the screen orientation is also available on previous models.
Is there a way to enable landscape mode? How do I enable landscape mode for epubs? There are 2 ways to activate landscape mode.

1- Edit Kobo eReader.conf using the directory KOBOeReader (H :) / .kobo / Kobo Open it with a text editor (notepad ++ recommend) and add the code phrase  [DeveloperSettings] Save and restart the Kobo, the auto-rotate icon will appear at the top and in landscape mode with the Landscape option.

2-When we upload the kobopatch file to be shared in this description, the auto-rotate icon will appear at the top of the screen. Unlike the Forma and Libra H2O, it will not only feature automatic turning. First of all, we have to pay attention to the fact that the software version written in the patch file below is the same as the software version of our eReader. As of 01.01.2020, the most recent software of Kobo has been prepared for version 4.19.14123, eReaders will need different patch files for future updates, and I will try to keep them updated below this article. If the patch version does not match the software of your device, the links will be added when you type in the dialog box at the bottom right.

First we learn the software version of our eReader by following the Settings -> Device Information on the SOFTWARE DETAILS tab. What we need to do is download the appropriate version below and connect the eReader to the PC and install it in the "KOBOeReader (H :) / .kobo" folder. We then disconnect the USB cable from the computer with the option of securely disconnect, the eReader will perform the installation and restart after a while.
That's it!

The auto-rotate icon will appear at the top of the screen and the screen will be available in landscape mode with the Landscape option and the screen in portrait mode with the Portrait option.

You can download the patch for v4.19.14123 from this link.
